Jane, the national president of the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU), has passed away suddenly after a short illness. The Socialist Party sends our deepest condolences to Jane’s family, and we also send our solidarity to the CWU. Jane was a member of the union since 1982, a longstanding socialist, militant Royal Mail rep, and chaired the union’s postal executive.
Gary Clark, CWU Scotland no.2 branch secretary and Socialist Party Scotland member, said: “I was proud to take her around picket lines in my branch area and she spoke at a rally we organised with the RMT and Aslef in Edinburgh where she was in her usual fighting spirit, which gripped the hundreds there. Jane, I will really miss you but your fighting spirit will live on in the comrades you have inspired.”
