Tom Gibson, Bradford Socialist Party

Socialist Party members joined a demonstration of 30 people in Bradford against the ongoing genocide happening to the Rohingya people in Myanmar, particularly recent attacks on the community by the Arakan Army that has left hundreds dead.

There was a very harrowing speech from an eight-year-old girl, who spoke about the experiences of family members, who were either killed or currently trapped in Myanmar.

Socialist Party member Iain Dalton spoke about the uprisings that have taken place against authoritarian capitalist governments in both Myanmar and Bangladesh. Iain put forward a socialist programme to take those struggles forward, on a united working-class basis, to seize the wealth of society to meets the needs of all, which could avoid the ethnic divisions leading to the repression of the Rohingya.

This was very well received, and our presence was very welcome. We handed out lots of leaflets, and sold our socialist paper and magazine too.
