It must be tough being offered tens of thousands of pounds of gifts. Too hard to say ‘no’, apparently.
Labour prime minister Keir Starmer, who had income of £404,030 last year, has been kitted out in new uniform by billionaire donor Lord Alli. Victoria Starmer, his wife, has received lavish gifts too. In total, ‘Sir Keir’ has had £76,000 of freebies since the 2019 general election.
Starmer insists he is sticking to the rules. What kind of sick rules are we playing by?
He’s sticking to the rules when he freezes pensioners, forcing them to wear most of their clothes to keep warm. He’s sticking to the rules when he keeps children in poverty, their parents scraping together the pennies to buy new school uniforms.
We need politicians prepared to break the ‘rules’ and act in the interests of the working class instead. MPs should be paid a workers’ wage, with no extra privileges. They should be subject to recall by those who elected them too. And we need a party that isn’t beholden to billionaires and the bosses, but our own workers’ party that fights for socialist change.
