Stop all council cuts and closures

Make the super-rich pay

Mariam Kamish, Rhondda Cynon Taff (RCT) Socialist Party

Like most councils in Britain, RCT Council faces a funding gap, after years of austerity under Tory and Labour governments. And councillors are proposing devastating cuts.

The Labour council is trying to divide us. The consultation process asks you to explain how a cut or closure would affect you – and where you think they should cut instead.

We say: don’t fall for that trick. To win, we need to unite all the fights!

That’s how we’ll save free school transport; Ferndale House and Cae Glas residential care homes; Trallwng Infants School; in-house social care and Meals on Wheels.

When we started our campaign, councillors we met told us the money wasn’t there. They’ve stopped telling us that now.

RCT Council has £270 million in usable reserves – the largest in Wales. That’s according to the Welsh Labour government’s own figures.

We elect councillors to represent us. They shouldn’t be making cuts and closures that would devastate people’s lives.

Use the reserves, fund services and mobilise a fight for more money from government! By taking a fighting stance, they would win huge public support.

RCT Trades Union Council has agreed to head up this campaign. With the trade union movement in the lead, the local authority can be forced to think again!
