The struggle of Unite members at Modaxo in Reading continues. When I visited the picket line again, bus drivers and motorists tooted in support of the strikers and there was a sense of unity and community against the bosses’ greed.

A striker reported that they had been offered £3 an hour extra or nothing. They want £13.50 an hour.

Striker Richard said: “Members are staying united as we begin the fifth week of strike action. The company is continuing to put profits before staff and the residents of Reading. We will be continuing with strike action as well as making the case for Reading Borough Council to bring this contract back in-house.”

Labour-run Reading council outsources traffic enforcement duties to Modaxo.

The Socialist Party fully backs these workers – as well as continuing to campaign for a £15-an-hour minimum wage.
