Workers angry about war and austerity donate to the socialists
Chris Newby, National Fighting Fund organiser
Thanks to everyone who helped make sure that we smashed through our fighting fund target again, raising £41,803 this quarter. This helps make sure that we have the money to pay for our leaflets, posters, and placards, with our clear socialist message.
Across Britain and internationally, people are looking for answers to the tumultuous events taking place around the world. How can the wars in Gaza and Ukraine be stopped? How can the austerity attacks from governments and the bosses be challenged?
The pages of the Socialist are full of examples of workers fighting back. The last issue of the Socialist had reports from Israel, Turkey, and Serbia of mass protest against their respective governments; and in Britain, Birmingham bin workers have shown they are prepared to fight back against their Labour council’s attacks.
The Socialist Party puts forward a clear socialist programme of how movements can be built to end these wars and austerity attacks. A vital part of that programme is struggling to build mass workers’ parties, with socialist policies.
Socialist Party members are seeing an increase in support for our ideas and our campaigning work, with donations from the public that they give at our stalls, and interest in joining our party. Campaigning against cuts in benefits, particularly to disabled people, our members and supporters in Grays in Essex raised £19, in Birmingham £23.59, Swindon £14, and £57 in Swansea.
As anger against these attacks deepen, workers will increasingly look for ways to fight back. It’s vital that Socialist Party members are out campaigning in their local areas to meet these people.
