A voice for the working class

Vote Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition

Millions of people will have the chance to register their dissatisfaction with Keir Starmer’s Labour government on 1 May. Local elections are taking place in 23 different authorities, mostly outside of the major urban areas.

There will be 104 Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition candidates – each of them pledging to fight against further austerity cuts. The stand makes up the sixth-biggest in this election and points towards the need for the working class to have its own mass party, fighting for a socialist alternative.

A full list of candidates is available at tusc.org.uk

Doncaster has traditionally been a Labour stronghold. But there is no love for Labour in this election. Talking with people when out campaigning, asking them what they make of this government, after their initial hesitation I find myself giving them permission to swear!

At the election on 1 May it will have been just ten months of a Labour government, but it feels like ten years. We have met loads of people through the campaign who are enthused by our demand that the working class needs its own party. We have met loads of students campaigning at the college and several have been involved helping with our campaign.

Unfortunately, Nigel Farage’s Reform are also trying to capitalise on disenchantment with Labour. Local news seem to use every opportunity to broadcast Reform politicians – opportunists who offer no way forward for the working class to fight for the funding our services need, who instead stoke divisions and blame migrants not the bosses. They have ignored our requests for airtime.

Maybe they don’t want trade unionists and socialists on the airwaves making the case for socialist nationalisation of British Steel, under democratic workers’ control and management. Or calling for the profiteers to be kicked out of the NHS and other services too, with public services fully funded by making the super-rich pay.
