Unison members who are mental health service drivers at Prestwich hospital in Greater Manchester have been on a week-long strike for fair pay.
The eleven drivers concerned are solid in their commitment to the strike. Their pay grade had been agreed by management to be increased from band 2 to band 3. This negotiation took place over a year ago.
However, this nationally recognised pay award has now been reneged upon by senior management. As a result, the workers have gone on strike.
Socialist Party members support the struggle of these workers, who deliver a first-rate service for patients and staff alike, free at the point of delivery.
In addition, the Socialist Party demands at least a £15-an-hour minimum wage for all, so that workers like these can be paid a real living wage.
