On 27 April, Unite the Union announced that Labour-run Birmingham City Council has at last made an improved offer in the bin dispute, after 15 months of action.

In a Unite video, convenor for the bin workers Matthew Reid said: “Our collective strength has been amazing. We were right to go out on strike, that they could offer more than they said they could and still be fair and reasonable.”

Rep Danny Taylor said: “So this announcement that has just been released shows what can happen if workers unite and stand together. We have been on industrial action now for 15 months and our members have remained strong. They told us it couldn’t be done. But it has been done.”

Steve Morris, workplace rep, said: “We are working-class men and women, and we are standing shoulder to shoulder together to fight against these cuts.”

Striking bin workers will now consider the offer.
