Louie Nardini, York Socialist Students
Over the past two semesters, our campaign to reverse bursary cuts has gathered 350 signatures. This is just from weekly Socialist Students campaign stalls and word of mouth.
We handed in these signatures to the university, with a protest on 22 April. We demand that the University of York reverse the cuts.
But the university hasn’t even notified students about the £1,000 it has stolen from every one of them. University management must be worried that a message like that would kickstart an even bigger fightback against the cuts from students.
York St John University has also tried to sneak scholarship cuts past students. Low-income students are entitled to £250 per year. All this shows the austerity crisis in universities.
