Tom Gibson, Leeds and West Yorkshire Socialist Party
Socialist Party members participated in a Leeds demonstration, called in opposition to the Supreme Court decision, which is being used to restrict the rights of trans people.
50 people turned out, part of a national day of action. The Leeds organisers said it was only planned two days in advanced, which shows that people feel strongly.
I wanted to speak at the protest to talk about this issue and wider issues trans people face, such as access to healthcare and higher risk of poverty caused by discrimination. But I was told the speakers list was booked up.
So, instead, we had good conversations with protesters, who were positive about our leaflets. The Socialist Party is proud to stand on protests like this, and we will continue to promote what we say at future demonstrations and at Pride.
