Campaigners for member democracy in the trade union Prospect are calling on members to support a rep suspended from office in the union.
Risa Tan is recognised for massively growing their branch by winning for members. They were also one of the most confident and politically combative speakers at Prospect national conference this year.
Prospect members in ‘Democratic Prospects’ report that Risa is now facing two disciplinaries and was issued with a precautionary suspension as nominations opened for their branch committee. The complaint which gave rise to the precautionary suspension included allegations that Risa is a socialist, that they expressed a minority view against a pay offer supported by the Branch Executive Committee, that they speak to PCS union, and that they were rude in branch discussions.
Prospect members in ‘Democratic Prospects’ are asking branches to support Risa and help build a democratic, fighting union that protects members’ right to organise within the union.
