Leeds Socialist Party members visited pickets

RMT members working on the Gate Solutions catering contract with LNER (London North Eastern Railway) began strike action on 16 and 17 October, after the company failed to increase their pay to keep up with the ‘real living wage’ they had previously received. Pickets were angry that another contractor for LNER, OCS, which employs cleaners, has increased wages.

Given that the Labour government had promised the ‘greatest wave of insourcing in a generation’, workers are asking why they remain outsourced and back on the minimum wage, when LNER itself has been taken under government control.
