Campaign for a New Workers' Party - come to conference!

OVER 400 trade union unionists, youth student activists and community campaigners are expected to attend the Campaign for a New Workers' Party conference in London. Most of the delegates will have experience of fighting the big business agenda of New Labour and see the urgent necessity of building a left-wing political alternative.

The conference speakers will include Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the PCS union, whose members are currently fighting massive job cuts in the civil service; Socialist Party councillor Dave Nellist and; a member of WASG the new Left formation in Germany - which won 8.7% of the vote in last September's general election, securing 54 deputies in the parliament.

However, the main aim of the conference will be discussion on what practical steps can be taken to fight for a new workers' party in the trade unions and the wider community in the coming weeks and months.

In the run-up to the conference over 1,200 activists have signed the CNWP declaration with more signing up at public activities and on-line every day.

Why I support CNWP

"As New Labour shifts more and more to the right, the ordinary people of Britain are becoming alienated from and disillusioned with politics. The working class of this country now has very little political representation. The time for reclaiming the Labour party has been and gone, it is now vital that a new mass workers' party is formed to stand up to New Labour and to truly represent the interests of working-class Britain."

Morys Ireland, student and USDAW member, West Sussex.
