No to NHS marketisation

ON 22 February, a torch-lit procession marched through Liverpool city centre to "Save the NHS". 150 health workers and their supporters met to register their protest against the 'marketisation' of the health service.

A trade union rep from Royal Liverpool Hospital graphically described the worsening conditions in her hospital for patients and health workers under a 'market forces' run NHS.

The event, sponsored by Merseyside TUC, was initially intended to generate support for a hoped for national demo to defend the NHS on 3 March! MTUC Secretary Alec McFadden, in winding up the rally, voiced the general feeling: that we need a socialist alternative to right the social ills in our society.
