Yarl's Wood camp protests

AT THE Yarl's Wood detention centre near Milton Keynes 22 female asylum seekers have signed a letter calling for an independent investigation into detainees' treatment at the centre.

The letter claims that victims of torture and rape are being detained, pregnant women are being beaten, that there is racist treatment of African and Asian women, appeal hearings and removals are being imposed without notification and bail is being refused to women with British relatives.

An appeal asks for letters of protests to be sent to the Home Secretary (Fax: 020 7035 3262), the Chief Inspector of Prisons (Fax: 020 7035 2141), the Prisons Ombudsman (mail@ppo.gsi.gov.uk) and Human Rights Complaints Against Torture (tb-petitions@ohchr.org). For more information and a standard letter to send, go to www.socialistparty.org.uk
