£990,000 is not a bad salary, most would agree. But it wasn’t enough for Jason Tarry, chair of the John Lewis Partnership. His pay rose to £1.2 million for the year to January.
He probably got inspiration from MPs whose salaries rose by 5% to within touching distance of £100k from 1 April. The John Lewis business has cut over 10,000 jobs in the past three years, with plans for more. The business still refers to its workers as ‘partners’ though!
