Burnham’s speech at Labour Party conference has revealed the reality behind his so-called ‘new direction’. His announcement of the scrapping of the pension triple lock has shown that under him, yet again working-class people will be expected to pay the price for capitalist crisis.
A whole number of trade union leaders have rushed in to cover up for Burnham. But it is vital that the unions build pressure on this new Labour government.
A major step must be for unions to vote at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) General Council on 21 October to enact the PCS TUC Congress motion to call a national Saturday demonstration against austerity.
It is vital that union reps, members and activists call on their respective unions to vote for the motion to be enacted.
