As the cost of living continues to bite, and real wages fall, ordinary people are feeling the pinch. But things have never been better for a few! Forbes reports on the 141 new billionaires who join a group whose collective wealth has jumped an inflation-busting two trillion dollars this year.
When workers’ wages fall in value behind inflation, the difference has to go somewhere. What happens is theft – increased profits for the bosses and the transfer of wealth to the rich. With even less in our hands, is it any wonder that our personal budgets are squeezed, and around us public services crumble?
The wealth exists in society to provide a decent standard of living for everyone, with services run democratically and funded to meet people’s needs.
The capitalist bosses will always find any way possible to increase their share of the wealth. When workers get organised and take strike action over pay, we can defend or increase our share. But the system is rigged. We fight for a socialist programme to take the wealth and industry off the rich, nationalising the banks and big industries under democratic workers’ control. Instead of 2,781 billionaires, let’s run society in the interest of the 8.1 billion humans who live here.
If you want to fight for a socialist alternative to the capitalist system, which piles greater wealth at one end and misery for the other, then join the Socialist Party today.
