Kamala Harris, the US vice president attended a “Ukraine Peace Summit” of 90 plus countries (Russia was not invited, China did not attend) in Switzerland on 15 June. In announcing a further $1.5 Billion of so-called “humanitarian and energy aid” she remarked that:
“President Biden and my support for the people of Ukraine is unwavering. We support Ukraine not out of charity but because the people of Ukraine and their future is in our strategic interests. It is in our interest to uphold international rules and norms, such as sovereignty and territorial integrity and the international system we helped create following World War Two, which bolsters America’s security and prosperity.”
So, there you have it, from the Veep’s very own mouth. Forget the “humanitarian” spin – it’s all about strategic interests [read “the financial interests of US Capitalism”]; it always is as “The Socialist” (and “Militant”, it’s forerunner) has pointed out many times. I won’t hold my breath waiting for a similar, unequivocal admission regarding the USA’s military and financial support for the Israeli state and for many other despotic regimes around the world.
