In the difficult period after the collapse of Stalinism, when socialist ideas were extremely marginalised, we had to fight tenaciously to maintain our organisation.
We were able to do so because of our Marxist programme and approach.
We understood that capitalism offered no way forward for humanity, and that the working class would be forced by reality onto the road of struggle, and that mass support for socialist ideas would develop.
We are still at the beginning of that process, but in Britain – along with other countries – it is of huge importance that the working class has begun to feel its collective power.
At the same time there is a searching for an alternative to this rotten system, among millions of young people particularly.
Our party has already managed to grow.
We have won an important layer of young people, both students and young workers.
We are the most tenacious fighters for a militant fighting strategy in the trade unions and have increased our weight and standing as a result.
We also lead the way, at this stage, in clearly fighting for the trade unions to have a political voice.
All of this is allowing us to make gains now but is above all preparation for the much greater steps forward that will be possible in the coming period.
