Saatchi for socialism?

Such is the rottenness of capitalism today that even some of its most enthusiastic advocates from the 1990s are turning to Marx to try and explain its miserable reality.

Over Christmas, Maurice Saatchi of ‘Saatchi and Saatchi’ – the advertising agency that made a fortune helping Thatcher to victory in successive elections – actually wrote a piece in the i newspaper where he expressed his shock that he had “accidentally helped to create a world of staggering inequality as in the US where the average pay of a CEO is 440 times the average employee”. Perhaps, he concludes, “Marx was right.”

Much more important than the disillusionment of retired Thatcherite advertising executives is the deep-seated anger about the consequences of capitalism in the working class, and the inevitable mass movements that will result.
