Forklift drivers at Ardagh Glass, Knottingley, Wakefield, are celebrating. They have forced their new employer, Lockwood Haulage, to continue the existing Unite the Union recognition agreement they had when they transferred from the previous contractor, GXO.

Following two separate days of strike action in July, a further eight continuous days had been notified to the employer, which forced them to concede.

Unite rep Dean Gittins told the Socialist: “We had no alternative option to striking, having been expressly told the company would not recognise the existence of Unite. Unite has always been included in our employment contracts for decades, which we would expect to continue, in accordance with the government’s rules regarding TUPE [regulations which protect rights when workers are transferred between employers].

“I would like to thank colleagues and Unite for their solidarity and courage in standing together.”
