Nationalise Lindsey Oil Refinery

Workers from the Lindsey Oil Refinery in Lincolnshire lobbied parliament on 3 September to keep the plant functional. They heard their reps and Unite general secretary Sharon Graham call for new owners, after current proprietor Prax and its owner Sanjeev Kumar had their UK assets frozen due to alleged ‘irregularities’. The plant is not operating right now and 420 jobs are potentially at risk.

Unite is demanding that a new owner is found by the Labour government. But at least one rep called for the nationalisation of the plant, which Socialist Party members agree with. We call for nationalisation of the entire energy industry, under democratic workers’ control and management, as part of an environmentally sustainable socialist energy plan which could transfer jobs without loss of pay, terms and conditions.
