Unite members at SPS Technologies in Leicester were, at the time of going to press, preparing to begin indefinite strike action on Friday 4 September in a pay dispute.

Unite branch secretary Paul Brown said: “Last week, members rejected an offer from management that was supposedly 4% for this year and 4% for next along with changes to terms and conditions. But they want to delay paying it next year so, in effect, it’s really around 3.6%. It had been recommended by union officials a narrow majority of stewards. Negotiations have gone on for nine months, people are fed up and want it resolved.”

In 2021 the workers won gains from strike action against management attempts at fire-and-rehire tactic that could then have led to some workers losing as much as £3,000 a year.
