Thomas Butler, Liverpool North Socialist Party
The Socialist Party aims to best spread the ideas of socialism far and wide. The wretched system of capitalism means we live in a world of increasing polarisation, instability, and war.
Capitalism day by day fails to provide the working class worldwide with a dignified standard of living. With its inherent ‘profit over need’ philosophy, capitalism can only embark on a destructive and bleak path.
For young people today, our living standards are unprecedently lower than our parents. Capitalism is tearing our world down into more severe climate disaster.
Young members of the Socialist Party put forward an alternative to what capitalism has to offer. While we live under the financial realities and constraints of capitalism, the ability to lift the torch of socialism requires funds. Funds used to produce placards, book meeting rooms, leaflets, and organise within the broader movement.
For example, Socialist Students, which many young Socialist Party members participate in, has attended and will attend organising meetings of the international youth strike – so far 25 different youth organisations across 12 countries.
Socialist Students won support for the slogan ‘Fight for our futures, not their wars’ at the founding international meeting for 20 November. We’re now organising walkouts and protests across the country. But this cannot be done without much-needed resources.
The Socialist Party has a rich history for organising and rallying young people to fight against capitalism’s ails. In the 1990s, members of Militant, Socialist Party’s predecessor, formed Youth against Racism in Europe (YRE). We organised demonstrations and marches tens of thousands strong in the context of deep economic downturn, and an heightened whirlwind of vicious racism and organised fascists.
Decades later, the Socialist Party and its youth continues to fight for every gain that the working class can win. Any donation, large or small, will never be wasted. It will strengthen our organisation and its ability to organise amongst working-class movements, and leave capitalism in history.
